During upload, KDP asks whether an AI tool generated any text, images, or translations in the book.

AI-generated means the tool created the actual content, even if you substantially edited it afterward. AI-assisted means you created the content and used AI only to brainstorm, edit, refine, or error-check it.

The practical rule

If a model wrote the chapter, Amazon treats it as AI-generated even after substantial edits. If you wrote the chapter and used a tool only to catch errors, that is AI-assisted and KDP says no disclosure is required.

Disclosure is about honesty, not punishment. Undisclosed AI content is what gets books flagged, and Amazon's own guidance asks publishers to take responsibility for accuracy and originality.
