What KDP actually forbids in keywords

Amazon's keyword fields are limited to 7 lines of 50 characters each. They also reject phrases that advertise a category rank or price, name another author or book, or mention Amazon/Kindle itself.

The checker flags the common edge cases: bestseller-ish language, gift and sale wording, review/rating promises, and the exact same line twice — which wastes a field you could use for a real search phrase.

  • No price, rank, or review promises
  • No another author's name or another book's title
  • No Amazon, Kindle, or KDP brand words
  • One phrase per line; duplicates waste the limit

Where the result leaves you

When every line passes, paste the same phrases into the listing helper or the manuscript checklist and keep them consistent with the book cover metadata. Amazon's own rules page remains the source of truth.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many keywords can I use on KDP?

Seven keyword fields; each accepts up to 50 characters. Amazon recommends one phrase per line, and the phrases must describe the book — not advertise it.

Are the banned words checked against an official list?

The checker mirrors the published KDP rules (no bestseller/rank/promotion words, no competitor names, no Amazon brand words). Amazon can update rules, so confirm on the official help page before publishing.

Does this tool upload anything?

No. Everything runs in this browser; nothing is sent or stored.

Fix the listing, then keep the release on one version.

The metadata checklist and release pass keep title, keywords, and cover aligned to the exact book version you approved.
