The three things every press kit needs
Publishers and reviewers decide in seconds, so the kit has to answer three questions on the first page: who is the author, what is the book, and why now. The bio should be 50-100 words with one memorable credential; the one-liner is the book's promise in a single sentence; the press release skeleton gives reviewers a ready-to-copy paragraph.
The kit is dead weight if the contact details are missing. Include a real email, author site, and publication date alongside the assets.
- One-liner = reader promise, not genre summary
- Add high-res cover images and the blurb as separate files
- Include the publication date and price — reviewers need both
Set the kit up before the launch, not after
Media outreach runs on the same timeline as your publish date. Build the kit while the manuscript is being formatted, then drop it into the back matter and the launch timeline so every asset points to the same release date.
