The tells
AI drafts overuse parallel triplets, hedge with 'may', 'can', and 'it is important to note', open every paragraph with a topic-sentence cliché, and close with hollow summaries that add nothing. Sentences run uniform in length, and the voice never takes a risk.
Read your draft looking only for these patterns. Most of the AI feel lives in ten percent of the sentences.
The three editing passes
Pass one, cut: delete every sentence that restates the previous one. Pass two, vary: break the parallel triplets, mix sentence lengths, and replace hedges with specific claims. Pass three, voice: read it aloud and fix anything you would not say to a friend.
Adding one concrete detail per chapter — a number, a story, a named example — does more than any rewrite tool.
